Although the building that housed the Asbury Memorial Methodist Church on Cadnet Road is no longer standing, its history left a mark in its community. Organized in 1873, Asbury Memorial Methodist Church was the center for the local African American community in New Market. It held service until 1965, when it closed its doors, for the congregation had dwindled over time and was too small to continue on. The land where what was once the church is now a private home.
