A large number of enslaved African Americans were held at the Annefield Farm (Annefield Plantation. The matriarch of the first property owner’s taught enslaved and free African Americas at the plantation. Before her passing, the matriarch sent 34 enslaved persons to Liberia. Upon her death, the enslaved persons at Annefield were given the option to go to Liberia in her will. Annefield is a large estate and is named on the Virginia Landmarks Register database.
