This is the former site of the Exchange Club Park. It was established in 1958 and was the first neighborhood playground in Harrisonburg. Its name stemmed from the funds provided by the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Exchange Club, a civil service-based organization. The park was utilized by the African American community in the surrounding area. Many events were held here such as picnics and sports games. The park had one shelter, a playground, and a fireplace. It also had running water and electricity, just like the other city parks. The lot of the Exchange Park was abandoned by the city’s recreation department when the Northeast Park next to Simms School was developed into Simms Park (later Ralph Sampson Park). John Wesley United Methodist Church purchased part of the Exchange Park lot.
