Colored Masonic Mount Zion Lodge No. 18 was organized in 1867 with eighteen charter members. It was initially Mount Zion Lodge #12, but it was changed to Mount Zion Lodge #18 in 1875. The lodge was granted a charter from the Most Wonderful Grand Lodge of Virginia. The first Worshipful Master of the Mount Zion Lodge was Brother J.B. Gaskins. In 1873, the lodge purchased a property on the corner of Beverley Street and occupied the third floor. The lodge sold the property in 2002 and purchased the former Kenneth L. Jones Funeral Home on North Augusta Street, which the lodge still occupies today.
