Miss Lena’s Grocery Store on Kelley Street was a Black-owned business attached to the home of its owners, Lena and Henry Stuart. The couple were both born in Harrisonburg and married in 1940. Lena Mae Vickers Stuart was a business owner who received her education from Effinger Street School. Henry Eugene Stuart, Jr. was a university graduate from Wilberforce University, a World War II veteran, and a teacher. What was previously known as The Record Shop, the Stuarts opened their store in Newtown. Longtime resident, Doris Harper Allen, said in 2016, "They started with selling records, then cigarettes and kick-knacks, then ice cream and so on." In addition to running the store, the couple raised a family and owned multiple other properties. The store no longer exists and the property is lived by the Stuarts grandson.
