The Community United Methodist Church was organized in 1960 with the merger of Mt. Chapel Methodist Church (ca. 1869) and Cedar Green Methodist Church (ca. 1880). The churches were located in the African American community of Cedar Green, documented in the Jedediah Hotchkiss 1884 map of the Beverly Manor Magisterial District of Augusta County. The Cedar Green Methodist Church building was destroyed in a fire in 1959. A committee met to establish a new church building, and the two churches agreed to merge in 1960. A new church was built in 1961. The Community United Methodist Church celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1984.
