Orrick Chapel is a historic Black church that predates the end of slavery. The methodist church is named after Winchester native Robert Orrick, a formerly enslaved Black man who became a minister, property and business owner, and community leader after obtaining his freedom. Orrick used his wealth to help the local African American community in Winchester and Stephens City. He provided a space for Black children's education and materials to reconstruct the African American Methodist Church, which was destroyed during the Civil War. The new church became Orrick Chapel on Mulberry Street. The Black Methodist congregation originated between the late 1700s and 1800s. Over the decades, members declined, and the Orrick Chapel merged with the Stephens City United Methodist Church in 1991. The Stone House Foundation manages the still standing structure.
