Directions to Smithland Historic Home from Downtown Harrisonburg:

- This is private property and not open to the public
This house is the former property of the Smith family, who settled in Rockingham County in the 1760s. A descendant of the family, Edward Smith, built the mansion. Author J. Houston Harris mentioned in his work that Smith had a great number of slaves. The slave Quarters constructed behind the main house were two-story family homes that stand today.
