The Port Republic Road Elks Lodge housed the Improve Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, a black organization. Elks Lodge also housed businesses, including a barbershop and beauty parlor in 1926, a restaurant, and the Dew Drop Inn in 1951.The second floor was used as a dance hall in 1926. Just down the road at 212 Port Republic Road is a another former commercial use building for black businesses. Before the Waynesboro Christian Center, the property was home to a shoe shop in 1935. A new building replaced the original structure on the property. The Freed Daniels Marshalls’ Grill restaurant was in the building from 1962 to 72. Now, the property is a church.
