The Mt. Marine Baptist Church was built in the African American community of Kiddsville, present-day Fishersville. Kiddsville dates to the 1870s when eight families purchased land from a man named Kidd. Kiddvilles was documented in the Jedediah Hotchkiss Map of the South River Magisterial District in 1884. There was a school (Kiddsvile School House # 21) on Kiddsville Road at the foot of the hill below the present church. Many church records were lost in a fire. However, surviving records show the land was sold to church trustees in 1878 to erect a church and provide a burial ground. Over the years, church members dedicated church windows to decreased members. In 1986, an educational building was completed across the street that included classrooms, a pastor’s study, a kitchen, and a baptism pool. The most recent survey of the church cemetery was compiled by Joe Nutt in 2000, who documented over 70 burials.
