An African American history tour of Rockingham County featuring Zenda, an African American community that grew when previously enslaved families joined in the 1870s, of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. This self-driving tour features historic African American sites such as schools, churches, neighborhoods, cemeteries, businesses, and more. The tour starts on the Valley Turnpike and ends at the Rockingham County Bronze Turkey Statue and covers a total of 40 sites. This tour can be done in sections depending on what part of the county you wish to explore.
