Edgar Amos Love was born on September 10, 1891 in Harrisonburg. He graduated from the Academy of Morgan College in 1909. While attending Howard University in 1911, Love co-founded Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the first international fraternity at a historically black college. In 1913, Love graduated Cum Laude from Howard University and then received a Bachelor of Divinity from Howard in 1916. Love earned a third degree in Sacred Theology from Boston University and attended graduate school at the University of Chicago. Love was a civil rights activist, a US Army Veteran, a professor, and bishop of the Methodist church. Love social justice work involved the desegregation of the Methodist church. Morgan College gave Love the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity in 1935. Love passed away at the age of 82. The Edgar Amos Love historical marker was erected in 2015.
