In 1915, two new school buildings were constructed for African American students, The D. Webster Davis School and the T.C. Edmunds School. T.C. Edmunds School was initially called the D. Webster Davis School until there was a name change when the Booker T. Washington School was built in the 1930s. The school was named in honor of Principal Edmunds. T.C. Edmunds School was a two-story four classroom building on West Johnson Street. The school closed in 1966 following the demand for the city to comply with the Brown v. Board of Education ruling and integrate the city's schools. The Staunton Augusta County African American Research Society dedicated a historical marker to the D. Webster Davis School in 2022.
