- Continue straight on Grattan St
- In 800 ft, turn right onto S Mason St
- Then turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr Way
- In 0.5 mi, turn right onto Paul St
- Turn right onto Cardinal St
- Turn right into the parking lot
- Site 34 is on the right
The Furious Flower Poetry Center is the nation’s first academic center for black poetry on the campus of James Madison University. The nonprofit was started by former professor Dr. Joanne V. Gabin and has been operating for over 30 years. It is dedicated to assisting black poets through the different stages of their careers by “ensuring the visibility, inclusion and critical consideration for Black poets.” Through outreach and programming, Furious Flower aims to provide resources and preserve history. Furious Flower holds an Annual Poetry Conference annually to educate others on black poetry.
