Directions from Tunker Monument to site 9:
- Leave the Arkton Tunker Monument and continue 1.0 mile on Mountain Valley Road to Moores Mill Rd
- Make a left onto Moores Mill Rd
- In about 0.7 mile look for a place to safely pull over
- This site is on private property, but it can be seen from the road
Daniel Beasley born enslaved and spend his childhood on the Strickler estate with his parents, Harry and Susan, and siblings. In 1856, the Beasley family came to the Gains farm where Daniel met his wife, Cindy (Lucinada) Majors Beasley. Cindy was also enslaved on the Gains estate. After the American Civil War, Daniel, Cindy and his children and his parents were freed and settled in an area called Arkton. Harry and Susan Bealsey are buried outside the fence of the Moore Family Cemetery on what is known as the Moore Slave Burial Grounds. There are numerous of enslaved and previously enslaved individuals from neighboring farms buried in this area that are unmarked. Daniel and Cindy Major Beasley are buried inside the Moore Family Cemetery and are the only two black servants buried within the fence.
