This area is the site of two Quaker churches. The Smith Creek Church was built in 1738 on the plot for a cemetery and closed in 1772. The Old Bethlehem Stone Church was built in 1844-45. Both churches taught enslaved African Americans in the surrounding area and are remembered by the formerly enslaved who attended.
