Little is known about the African American presence in Stone Bridge, as the landowners were predominantly White. However, an 1882 newspaper notice referred to the Stone Bridge School as serving African American students. Later deeds for the school property are unclear about whether the students were Black or White. The school building was moved onto the nearby Farnley estate. The Washington and Porter families lived here.
